And, Sparky's Xfce menu doesn't look very different from Mint's, so the learning curve isn't steep. It's Debian based and updates when Debian updates and comes in 64 bit and 32 bit iso's. It will be fine in 12 GB of hard disk space (though more is better) and comes with Synaptic Package Manager, which allows you to install just about everything that you can install with Mint 19. ![]() If you really, really don't want to nuke your 18 install and install Mint 19, consider installing a smaller Linux distribution in a dual boot configuration with 18. I backed-up and nuked my 18.3 installs in December and rebuilt my systems with Mint 19 and Mint 20, depending on the hardware. I won't say that Mint 18 is unsafe to use on the internet, but the lack of updates makes it 'not the best of ideas'. Any security vulnerability, not related to Firefox, will remain unfixed.Īnd one day, without prior notice Firefox may stop working on LM 18.3, because no Mozilla developer will bother to test whether Firefox still works on obsolete Linux Mint or Ubuntu releases or any other obsolete Linux OS release. Keep in mind that the rest of your whole system will receive no updates (no bug fixes, no security updates).
